Transphobes Know They Can’t Win

Over the last few days, everyone’s favourite unemployed tax advisor, Maya Forstater, has been freaking out over a cartoon alien’s genitals or lack thereof. The more she posts, the funnier it becomes; the wilder her rhetoric, the more entertainment was derived.

Why is she like this? A better question would be: why are they like this? This habit of latching on to a trivial news story, twisting it beyond the point of parody, and then doubling down in the face of public mockery, is not confined to Forstater. It is pretty much the modus operandi of the ‘Gender Critical’ crowd. It happens over and over and never ceases to entertain.

So why are they like this?

Quite simply, because they know they are losing. Every week, every month, every year, more trans people come out. More trans celebrities. More trans neighbours. More trans family members. More trans people in school. More trans people at work.

Every time a trans person comes out and gets on with their life, another circle of cis people get to see that trans people are not, in fact, a threat or a danger, but just human beings with the same fears, hopes and flaws as everyone else.

When you see Forstater’s tweets, or try to read something Joyce has written or watch Stanisland being upstaged by her own cello, there is one quality above all…
